How to get the most from the information sessions
Information sessions are great!
I recommend you go to as many as you can!
Why?
So that you can hear all the information repeatedly!
I get that it can feel repetitious but the more you hear something the more you learn it, absorb it, and understand it. You will find you hear different things with each listen as you brain understands the new information it is hearing and what you want to know for future reference.
Another reason for attending as many as you can is you will get to know the people who work in these agencies, often they are the people who do the assessments for prospective adopters just like you.
The adoption process is comprehensive, overwhelming and demanding at times, so you will need to feel connected to the people and the agency you choose to work with. This is why these sessions are good as you meet the social workers and will know if there is a connection between you and the agency.
And then you can ask all the questions, take a list with you, some of the questions will be answered throughout the information sessions and if you do not have the answer, ask the question.
Remember this is your journey and if you need to know something, ask, you will not be judged for it and it will really help you make the informed decision regarding which agency and why.
Maybe create a chart for yourself, write down the name of the agency, what was good and not so good so you can do a comparison after attending all the sessions.
Finding the right agency is crucial as they will get to know everything about you and your life so you need to be able to trust them and feel safe.
